How to Choose the Right Fashion College

Are you confused about choosing the right fashion college? Getting a proper education is important when you’re going into the fashion industry, no matter your entry level. It’s so important that you should think long and hard about where you get your fashion degree. Even if you’re already enrolled at a fashion design school, if you find a better opportunity, there may still be time to switch to other colleges in fashion.

Once you realize how important choosing the right fashion designer college is, you’ll want to research all your options. Whether you’re looking for fashion merchandising colleges or a great fashion designer college, you’ll want to create a list with pros and cons of all the fashion colleges you’re thinking about attending (or transferring to if you want.)

While you can (and should!) add anything you want to your pro and con fashion college list, there are some things you’ll want to make sure you include:

  • Price - In today’s economy, the price of tuition at a fashion college may play a big role in your decision on where to go. You don’t want to sacrifice too much on quality (you’re worth it), but by comparing prices and factoring them into your decision, you can make sure you have money left over for other things like books and paying your other bills.
  • Prestige - For some, choosing a fashion college based on the prestige of fashion design colleges or fashion merchandising colleges is important. If you fall into this group, it should be on your list, but don’t weigh it too heavily. Prestige and brand is important, but you don’t want to pay for nothing more than a name if you can find a fashion school with similar or better teachers and resources.
  • Curriculum - You should jot down any notes about unique classes at each fashion college. You may find out that a class that really interests you is only available at one or two fashion design schools on your list. If this is the case, it could make your choice a lot easier.
  • Accreditation - This should be really high on your list if you want to choose the best fashion college for your longterm career. Not all fashion degrees are created equal. Knowing which fashion design colleges have actual accreditation is important if you don’t want to throw your money away on colleges in fashion that give out pretty much worthless diplomas.

As mentioned, there are other things you should put on your fashion school pros and cons list, but they should be things that are important to you - like location (virtual or real), amenities, and other considerations. Once you’ve added these items and done all the research, you can make a decision about the fashion design school you should attend. Choosing the right fashion design college is a big deal. If you make the right choice, though, you’ll end up with a fashion degree that’s perfect for you. And, perhaps more importantly, you’ll finally be in a position to pursue your fashion dreams.
